Ajwain is known as Bishops weed in English. It is one of the commonest ingredients used as spice in Indian kitchen. But its use is not restricted only for culinary purpose; it has many medicinal properties too. It is very useful in reducing spasmodic pains of the stomach and also in relieving flatulence and discomfort in the stomach due to indigestion. It is a good appetizer and a digestive. Thus it is a valuable spice beneficial in the management of diarrhea, dysentery, atonic dyspepsia, cholera, colic, flatulence and indigestion. In addition to this, it is also useful in respiratory disorders such as cough, cold, asthma, influenza, etc.
